It was introduced to Mexico in the fifteenth century by Spanish settlers. Authentic Mexican Talavera is said to come from the city of Puebla. Some pieces are only used for decorative purposes in the home or office.

The pottery involves accurate reproductions of pottery and china from the Spanish village of Talavera de la Reina. This village is famous for the craftsmen who come from that area. Their pottery is of the highest quality.

Mexican Talavera reflects many influences, such as that of China, the Moors and the Italian Renaissance.

At present, there are only 12 certified fabricas in Mexico. This includes the Uriarte Talavera.
